Ukraine carried out another drone attack targeting a major oil refinery in Russia, as the conflict between the two countries continued to intensify. Russian authorities reported that air defence systems intercepted hundreds of drones overnight, though several managed to hit strategic infrastructure, including a key refinery near Moscow.
According to Russian officials, the attack triggered a fire at the facility and led to temporary disruptions at airports around the capital. Emergency services were deployed to contain the blaze, while authorities assessed the extent of the damage.
The latest strike comes just days after a previous attack affected operations at the same refinery, which is one of the major fuel suppliers for the Moscow region. Industry sources have warned that repeated attacks on energy infrastructure could further strain Russia’s fuel supplies and create logistical challenges.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has defended such operations as part of Kyiv’s strategy to weaken Russia’s war capabilities and pressure Moscow into ending the conflict. Meanwhile, Russian officials claimed that their air defence systems shot down a large number of drones launched across several regions.
The attack marked one of the biggest drone operations carried out by Ukraine since the beginning of the war. Analysts believe Kyiv has increasingly focused on targeting Russia’s energy infrastructure to disrupt revenue streams and military logistics.
Despite continued diplomatic efforts by international leaders, hostilities between the two sides remain intense, with both countries exchanging aerial attacks and accusing each other of escalating the conflict.
