Veteran India batter and former Test captain Ajinkya Rahane on Thursday announced his retirement from international cricket, sharing an emotional video message with fans on social media.

Announcing his decision, Rahane posted, “Cap 278 signing off. Thank you for all the love and support over the years. Forever grateful,” alongside a heartfelt video reflecting on his journey to the top. In the message, Rahane said that every journey has a beginning and an end, and that when that moment arrives, one must accept it with respect and move forward.
A Career Spanning Over a Decade
Rahane made his international debut in 2011 and went on to represent India in 85 Tests, 90 ODIs, and 20 T20Is across his career. Known for his composed, elegant batting style, he built a reputation as one of India’s most dependable middle-order batters in the longest format of the game.
Captaincy Legacy: The Historic 2020-21 Australia Series
Rahane’s most memorable moment as captain came during India’s tour of Australia in 2020-21, when he led a depleted Indian side — missing several first-choice players — to a famous 2-1 series win, a result widely regarded as one of the greatest achievements in Indian cricket history.
A Late Career Resurgence
Rahane’s international career saw a fresh lease of life when he was recalled for the 2023 World Test Championship final against Australia, where he was India’s top performer with the bat, scoring 89 and 46 in the two innings.
