Kolkata Police opened a case on their own against West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Mamata Banerjee along with people who organised a Trinamool Chhatra Parishad (TMCP) foundation day event. The police said the event broke the rules set by the Calcutta High Court. The event took place on Cathedral Road in Kolkata on Friday, August 28.
What the FIR Says
The case was filed on August 28 at Hastings Police Station under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) including Sections 61(2) 223 125(a) 132 and 285. The complaint came from -inspector Apu Baidya. The Calcutta High Court allowed the TMCP event at the place but with rules. Mainly that one lane of the road stay open for traffic and people to move. The programme had to end by 3 p.m. Police say these rules were broken. Supporters reportedly moved barriers. Pushed against police. Both lanes were blocked for a time. The event went on past the time the court said it should end. This caused a lot of traffic problems in the area.

According to reports the case was opened because of directions from West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari. His BJP-led government now runs the state.
TMCs Reaction
TMC MLA Kunal Ghosh denied the claims. He called the case driven. He said the TMC respects the High Court and the court but the court of the people. He said that handling a crowd was the job of the police, not the people who organised the event. At the TMCP meeting Mamata Banerjee said the BJP is using the police to make people scared. She said the BJP is doing politics in Bengal. She claimed the police have turned into a problem under BJP control. She also said she will go on a state- tour. She said she will march in the streets if local leaders stop public events.
BJPs Reaction
The BJP supports the police action. They say Mamata and the TMC ignored the rules set by the court.
