A pacer from Jammu and Kashmir named Auqib Nabi has received his call-up to the Indian cricket team. He has been named as a replacement for Jasprit Bumrah for the two-match Test series against Sri Lanka starting August 15. The Mens Selection Committee announced the change on Monday after Bumrah was ruled out due to a lasting knee injury.
Why Jasprit Bumrah Was Not Available
Jasprit Bumrah has not fully recovered from a knee injury that he got during the ODI series against England. This problem has been around since the ICC Mens T20 World Cup this year. The 32-year-old bowler had just come back to cricket after being away for nearly two years. He played two ODIs before he had to leave the series finale at Lords due to discomfort. According to the BCCI the decision to keep him out of the Sri Lanka tour was made by the Sports Science Department at the Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru. They decided to focus on his long-term fitness of bringing him back immediately. This is because India has a cricket schedule.
Who Is Auqib Nabi?
The 29-year-old arm medium-fast bowler from Jammu and Kashmir is now in the team because of a great domestic season. He took 104 wickets in the two Ranji Trophy seasons, including 60 wickets in 2025-26 which was the highest in the tournament. He helped Jammu and Kashmir win their Ranji Trophy title. He also did well on India As tour of Sri Lanka taking six wickets in two first-class matches. He was part of the Delhi Capitals IPL squad this year. If he gets a chance to play in a Test Nabi will be the Test cricketer from Jammu and Kashmir.
