The trouble started on Tuesday, July 7. Gurgaon got 82 mm of rain. Within 30 minutes many major roads were flooded. The city looked like Venices flooded canals. Visuals on social media showed how bad the flooding was. One video of flooding on Peach Tree Road in Sushant Lok-1s C-Block was shared widely. The videos and photos made people criticize Gurgaons infrastructure again. Many said the city can’t handle moderate rain.
Traffic Paralysed Across Key Corridors
The waterlogging caused traffic congestion on busy roads. People were stuck for hours as vehicles moved slowly through flooded areas. Hero Honda Chowk, Rajiv Chowk, Basai, Golf Course Extension Road, Udyog Vihar and Sohna Road were badly affected. The traffic jams continued on the day. Sohna Road near Omaxe Mall had waterlogging. This affected traffic on the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway Link Road.
Infrastructure Failures Add to the Chaos
The heavy rain also showed infrastructure problems. There was a road collapse on Civil Lines Road. A bus slipped into a drain near National Highway 48. Luckily no one was hurt. The disruption continued into the day. Delhi Police issued an advisory after a road collapse at Narsingpur in Gurugram on NH-48. Commuters were advised to expect delays and plan their journeys in advance. They were also told to consider routes via the UER-II corridor and the Dwarka Expressway.
Authorities Urge Work-From-Home Arrangements
Gurugram Police issued an advisory. They asked companies to let employees work from home to reduce the number of people on the road.
