Nainital, known as the “Lake District of India ” faces traffic issues due to tourists and narrow roads. The towns roads get congested during peak travel seasons. A ropeway between Rani Bagh and Bhimtal is planned to ease traffic and provide a reliable route.
The Rani Bagh-Bhimtal ropeway project aims to link visited destinations reducing the burden on existing roads and offering an eco-friendly transport option.
Part of a Larger Plan for Nainitals Connectivity
The Rani Bagh-Bhimtal project is part of a plan for Nainital. A comprehensive feasibility report for an integrated ropeway network across the district is being prepared. The network will connect destinations like Rani Bagh, Bhimtal, Bhowali, Nainital and Kainchi Dham. The system will serve both tourists and locals including commuters and pilgrims.
A Statewide Push for Ropeway Infrastructure
The Dhami government is developing ropeway infrastructure statewide. 50 ropeway projects are proposed across various districts. These projects will connect pilgrimage sites, adventure tourism destinations and hill towns.
The projects are being executed under the Uttarakhand Ropeway Development Limited, which will issue Letters of Award to selected bidders and coordinate implementation under a Public-Private Partnership model.

Chief Minister Dhami sees ropeway development as key to Uttarakhands tourism growth. He has held review meetings with officials and union ministers to assess progress on various ropeway corridors.
