The official trailer of Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana: Part 1 was released globally on Thursday, July 30, 2026, during the auspicious Brahma Muhurat, offering a four-minute glimpse into one of Indian cinema’s most ambitious productions. Blending emotional storytelling with large-scale action and cutting-edge visual effects, the trailer sets the stage for the battle between righteousness and absolute power.
Ravana’s Grand Introduction
The trailer opens with a striking introduction to Yash’s Ravana, who emerges from the shadows before ascending to a grand palace and declaring his rule over the three realms — heaven, earth, and the underworld. Soon after, Ranbir Kapoor’s Rama is introduced through glimpses of his life in Ayodhya alongside Sai Pallavi’s Sita.
From Exile to War: The Story So Far
The trailer moves through key events from the epic, including Rama and Sita’s wedding, Kaikeyi’s decision that sends Rama, Sita, and Lakshman into 14 years of exile, and the developments that ultimately set up the confrontation between Rama and Ravana. Arun Govil appears as King Dashrath in an emotional sequence, while the trailer’s latter half shifts to the growing conflict between the two protagonists, featuring sweeping battle sequences and elaborate production design.

Directed by Nitesh Tiwari and produced by Namit Malhotra — founder of Prime Focus and CEO of Academy Award-winning VFX studio DNEG — Ramayana stars Ranbir Kapoor as Rama, Sai Pallavi as Sita, Yash as Ravana, Sunny Deol as Hanuman, and Ravi Dubey as Lakshman, alongside Arun Govil, Lara Dutta, Rakul Preet Singh, Vivek Oberoi, Kunal Kapoor, and Shobana in key roles. The music has been composed jointly by Hans Zimmer and A.R. Rahman.
A Two-Part, IMAX-Scale Epic
Planned as a two-part saga budgeted at approximately $500 million combined, both films have been shot for IMAX. Part 1 is expected to culminate with Sita’s abduction by Ravana, leaving the rescue campaign and climactic battle for Part 2. Kapoor, Yash, Tiwari, and Malhotra appeared at San Diego Comic-Con to unveil the trailer and discuss the making of the films.
Release Date
Ramayana: Part 1 is scheduled to release during the Diwali festive window in 2026, with Part 2 following on Diwali 2027 — a deliberate choice, as Diwali marks Rama’s return to Ayodhya after his exile and victory over Ravana in Hindu tradition.
