The Ambala Borewell Tragedy is a sad story. A four-year-old boy named Nirvair Singh fell into a hole in the ground called a borewell. This happened in Ambala district in Haryana. The borewell was 220 feet deep. The people who were trying to save him worked for 21 hours. They did not stop until they got him out. Unfortunately the little boy died.
How the Incident Happened
The accident happened on Tuesday at 6:30 am. Nirvair Singh went with his father to their fields. His father was taking breakfast to his grandfather. The little boy was playing near the fields. Nirvair Singh saw a borewell in a field. He started throwing soil into it. The ground was wet and slippery. He leaned forward to look inside and fell in. His father and grandfather heard him screaming. They ran to help him. Many villagers also came to help but they could not pull him out. The borewell was too narrow.
A Marathon Rescue Effort
Many people came to help. They all were trying to save Nirvair Singh . The National Disaster Response Force, the State Disaster Response Force, the Indian Army and the police all worked together. They brought machines to try and get Nirvair out.
The Deputy Commissioner, Ajay Singh Tomar and Haryana Cabinet Minister Anil Vij visited the village. They wanted to help and meet Nirvairs family.
Declared Dead After Rescue
After 21 hours Nirvair was finally pulled out. He was taken to the hospital. He was already dead. The doctors did an ECG. Confirmed that he had passed away. The childs body was moved to the mortuary. A post-mortem examination will be done to find out the cause of death.
Action Against Negligence
The district administration is taking action against those for leaving the borewell open. They are directing the police to initiate action. The Deputy Commissioner appealed to farmers to seal their borewells. This tragedy could have been prevented if the borewell was covered.
A Recurring Danger
This is not the time something like this has happened. There have been accidents like this in India. The borewells are very dangerous. Especially for children. The government needs to make sure that the borewells are safe. They need to cover them so children cannot fall in.
