Russia launched a fresh wave of missile and drone strikes across Ukraine on Monday. These attacks killed least 12 civilians and wounded around 40 others. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called these attacks “horrific”.
The overnight and daytime bombardment hit regions of the country. This showed how vulnerable Ukraines civilian infrastructure is. It also made Kyiv ask for Western-supplied air defence systems again.

The deadliest attack of the day targeted the Ukrainian city of Dnipro. A Russian missile aimed at infrastructure , killed 6 people; wounded 29 others. Civilians Struck on the Roads and in Their Homes
In the city of Zaporizhzhia drones hit a minibus. This killed three people. Wounded six others, including a child. President Zelenskyy posted about this on media. The attack shows that drone strikes can hit anyone anywhere. They do not care if you are a civilian or not.
In the Sumy region Russian drones killed a 69-year- woman and a 77-year-old man. The National Police said this. In the city of Kharkiv a Russian strike killed one person. Wounded five others. The Mayor of Kharkiv” Ihor Terekhov” confirmed this. There were also attacks in at least six other parts of the country.. We do not have all the details about these attacks yet.
Power Cuts Amid a Summer Heatwave
The attacks also caused power cuts. This happened during a heatwave. Ukraines power grid operator, Ukrenergo said that people in eight regions did not have power. This is a problem because it is hot and people need electricity to cool down. Russia has been targeting Ukraines energy facilities for a time. This is part of their plan to weaken Ukraines morale and infrastructure.
The Scale of the Aerial Assault
Ukraines air force said they shot down 82 of the 108 drones that Russia launched.. Some drones and missiles still hit their targets. Russias Defence Ministry said they shot down 209 drones. This shows that both sides are fighting hard in the air.
After the attacks President Zelenskyy asked countries to help Ukraine with air defence systems. He said people need protection from these attacks. He wants systems that can stop Russias missiles. He thinks Europe should work harder to develop these systems.

The war between Russia and Ukraine has been going on for than four years. It started in 2022. The United Nations says that than 16,000 Ukrainian civilians have been killed. This number is still going up because of Russias strikes.
