Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren said on Tuesday that his government is taking the concerns of job aspirants protesting against the Jharkhand Public Service Commission examination seriously. He said that a decision will be made about the Jharkhand Public Service Commission examination at the time. This protest has been going on for twelve days in Ranchi.
What Started The Protest
The problem started after the 14th Combined Civil Services Preliminary Examination was held on April 19. The Jharkhand Public Service Commission released the answer key on April 21. Announced the results on July 2. After that people started saying that something was not right with the Jharkhand Public Service Commission examination on media. The Jharkhand Public Service Commission Main Examination was supposed to happen from July 25-27. It was postponed. The protesters, who are part of the JSSC Reforms Manch started their sit-in at the Jaipal Singh Munda Stadium in Ranchi on July 25. They are still. Some of them like student leader Devendranath Mahato are on hunger strike.
What The Protesters Want
The job aspirants want the Jharkhand Public Service Commission preliminary examination to be cancelled. They want the CBI to investigate of the states CID. They also want changes to be made to the Jharkhand Public Service Commission and the Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission. The protesters say that the government is trying to hide the truth by letting the states CID investigate of an independent body. Mahato said that the protest will continue until the government fixes the problems with the Jharkhand Public Service Commission and the Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission.
Governments Response To The Protest
Hemant Soren said that the investigation team is looking into the allegations. He said that his government cares about the students concerns and will take action after the CID investigation is over. The CID has arrested eleven people far.
Political Reactions To The Protest
The BJP and Congress are supporting the protesters demands. A senior BJP leader said that the government should talk to the protesters directly and think about letting the CBI investigate. He said that the students do not have things like tents, water and healthcare even though they are protesting peacefully. He compared this to the paper leak controversy and asked why the government acted quickly in that case but not in this one.
Why This Protest Is Important
This protest started because of one examination. Now it is a bigger problem for the Hemant Soren administration. This issue will likely be a topic, in the upcoming Monsoon Session of the Jharkhand Assembly.
