Tamil superstar Suriya’s much-anticipated action-comedy Suriya47, directed by Malayalam filmmaker Jithu Madhavan, is reportedly eyeing a theatrical release during Diwali 2026, according to industry reports. Suriya recently wrapped shooting for the film, and buzz around its release timing has picked up pace.
A Third Consecutive Theatrical Release for Suriya
If the Diwali release reports prove accurate, Suriya47 would mark the actor’s third consecutive theatrical release, following Karuppu and the upcoming Vishwanath and Sons. However, this remains unconfirmed, as the makers are yet to make an official announcement regarding the release date.
About the Film
Tentatively titled Suriya47, the cop action-comedy marks Jithu Madhavan’s Tamil directorial debut, following the success of his Malayalam hits Romancham and Aavesham. Suriya plays an eccentric police officer leading a team of equally quirky cops, whose lives are upended when they are assigned a serious case. The film is jointly produced by Suriya, Jithu Madhavan, and Zhagaram Studios — a new production banner launched by Suriya.
Star Cast
The film stars Nazriya Nazim Fahadh as the female lead, marking her big comeback in Tamil cinema, alongside Naslen, John Vijay, Anandraj, Indrans, and others in key roles. Music is composed by Sushin Shyam, a frequent Jithu Madhavan collaborator, marking his Tamil film debut.
Diwali Competition
Suriya47 will not be alone in the Diwali race — Silambarasan TR’s Arasan, directed by Vetrimaaran, is also expected to arrive in theatres during the same festive window, setting up a potential box office clash.
